What are dynamic base wages?
Dynamic base wages are used to automatically change the base wage on a shift based on fixed rules. Instead of relying solely on the employee’s individual base wage, you can define situations where a different wage should apply.
This feature is especially useful if the wage varies depending on, for example, role, shift type, absence, or special conditions.
How to set up dynamic base wages
Go to ⚙️ Settings > 💰 Time tracking > Dynamic base wages.
To create a dynamic base wage, click the blue '➕'-icon in the top-right corner. Then:
Name the base wage
Choose a name that clearly describes when the wage is used. For example, "Sickness – reduced base wage", "On-call shift", or "Training shift".
Specify a wage code (optional)
If your payroll system supports wage codes, you can enter it here.
Set the rate
Here, you define the base wage that should apply when the rule is triggered.
Choose whether supplements should remain active
You decide whether any supplements should continue to apply on top of the dynamic base wage or not.
Use filters to define which shifts the wage applies to
Filters can include roles, tags, shift types, or absence types.
If you don’t add any filters, the dynamic base wage will apply to all shifts.
Prioritised order
If multiple shift wages apply, the first one on the list is used. You can change the order yourself by dragging the six dots on the side.
What can dynamic base wages be used for?
Dynamic base wages are a flexible feature that allows you to decide how and when you want to use them.
Typical uses include:
Lower base wage during sickness
Automatically apply a reduced rate to shifts registered as sickness, ensuring correct pay handling without manual adjustments.
Shift types with different wages
Used for training shifts, internal shifts, or other special shift types where the wage should differ from the employee’s normal base wage.
On-call shifts
If on-call shifts are paid differently than regular shifts, the correct rate can be applied automatically.
Role-based pay
When pay depends on the role assigned to the shift rather than the individual employee, dynamic base wages ensure consistent pay for everyone in the same role and make it easy to adjust the wage in one place.
FAQ
Can dynamic base wages be used together with an employee’s standard base wage?
Yes. The employee’s standard base wage is always the starting point. A dynamic base wage only overrides the base wage on shifts where the defined rules are met.
Do dynamic base wages affect supplements?
Whether dynamic base wages affect supplements depends on your account setup. When creating a dynamic base wage, you decide whether any supplements should remain active on top of the dynamic base wage.
What happens if multiple dynamic base wages match the same shift?
If multiple dynamic base wages apply to the same shift, the one at the top of the list is used. Make sure the order reflects your intended priority.
